We recently visited beautiful Cincinnati which I spell correctly about half the time. Cincy has so much history and cool architecture which is really shown off in the movie, AIRBORNE. When I was a kid, I was completely transfixed by the Devil's Backbone race. Never did I believe I would end up getting to visit the locations. This was one we had to do!

Beyond the Backlot is a show about iconic movies and their locations. We take you on journeys to the very places where some of your favorite movies were filmed, the stories of what happened there, and what they look like today. These are adventures you don't want to miss.

ABOUT THE EPISODE -- Home Alone (1990) On Location

We slept in! -- Home Alone Filming Locations 30 years later!

Home Alone is THE Christmas movie of a generation. Right after Thanksgiving, this Chris Columbus-directed film is on repeat, and for good reason. Although there are plenty of funny, slapstick scenes with Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) and the wicked Wet Bandits (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern), this movie hits on what the true meaning of Christmas is: love and family. You can't help but feel good (and fully entertained) at the end.

The Beyond the Backlot crew heads to the Chicagoland area (Winnetka, Wilmette, and Oak Park) to track down some of these iconic, memorable filming locations -- and fulfill last year's @BeyondtheBacklot Location Scout episode -- a true then and now filming locations adventure. As John Hughes normally did, he canvassed the north shore suburbs of Chicago to find the perfect home, neighborhood, and community for his timeless Christmas classic. It was an honor to walk in the footsteps of John Hughes' most commercially-successful film of his brilliant career.

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals. And Happy New Year!

AND -- Happy 30th Anniversary to Home Alone!

***

What if your favorite movie could come back to life? It does in Beyond the Backlot.

As kids of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, we have fond memories of watching our favorite films over and over. Thanks to theaters and VHS tapes, these movies aren't just blockbusters from the past - they're part of our childhood.

Beyond the Backlot taps into our hunger for nostalgia by visiting the current day locations of our favorite films.

Boyz n the Hood is a 1991 American coming-of-age hood drama film written and directed by John Singleton in his feature directorial debut.[2] It stars Ice Cube, Cuba Gooding Jr., Morris Chestnut, Laurence Fishburne, Nia Long, Regina King, and Angela Bassett. Boyz n the Hood follows Tre Styles (Gooding Jr.), who is sent to live with his father Furious Styles (Fishburne) in South Central Los Angeles, surrounded by the neighborhood's booming gang culture. The film's title is a double entendre; a play on the term boyhood and a reference to the 1987 N.W.A rap song of the same name, written by Ice Cube.

Singleton initially developed the film as a requirement for application to film school in 1986 and sold the script to Columbia Pictures upon graduation in 1990. During writing, he drew inspiration from his own life and from the lives of people he knew and insisted he direct the project. Principal photography began in September 1990 and was filmed on location from October to November 1990. The film is notable for featuring breakout roles for Ice Cube, Cuba Gooding Jr., Morris Chestnut, and Nia Long.

Boyz n the Hood premiered in Los Angeles on July 2, 1991, and was theatrically released in the United States ten days later. The film became a critical and commercial success, praised for its emotional weight, acting, and writing. It grossed $57.5 million in North America, and was nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay at the 64th Academy Awards, making Singleton the youngest person and the first African-American to be nominated for Best Director.

The film was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival. In 2002, the United States Library of Congress deemed it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.

8 Mile - All The Filming Locations - Then and Now

#8mile #filminglocations #filminglocation #eminem

8 Mile is a 2002 American drama film written by Scott Silver and directed by Curtis Hanson. It stars Eminem in his film debut, alongside Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, Michael Shannon, Anthony Mackie, and Kim Basinger. The film, which contains autobiographical elements from Eminem's life, follows white rapper B-Rabbit (Eminem) and his attempt to launch a career in hip hop, a genre dominated by Black people. The title is derived from 8 Mile Road, the highway between the predominantly Black city of Detroit and the largely white suburban communities to the north that Marshall originally lived in.

8 Mile was a critical and box office success. It opened at No. 1 in the US with $51.3 million grossed in its opening weekend, and would eventually go on to achieve a total gross of $242.9 million worldwide. The album's accompanying soundtrack was also a commercial success, being certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The film garnered numerous award nominations and wins, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Lose Yourself" win for Eminem, Luis Resto and Jeff Bass at the 75th Academy Awards. 8 Mile was named one of the best films of 2002 by several publications.

As the end credits proudly announce, the movie was “Filmed on location in the 313”, the area code for inner urban Detroit, traditionally separated from the posher northern suburbs by the titular 8 Mile Road.

If you love the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" and have ever wondered where it was filmed, you've come to the right place! I love this movie and have spent years tracking down all the locations that were used in filming. I have located all the main locations that were featured, as well as some of the harder to find spots - including locations that have completely changed and also some locations that were used for the rarely viewed deleted scenes.

I did a different "The Shawshank Redemption" filming location video several years ago that many people enjoyed. I received a lot of great feedback and comments on it. However, I continued to find new locations and material since then, so I decided to do an even bigger and better version. "The Shawshank Redemption" is my #1 all-time favorite movie. I felt it deserved a documentary-type filming location video to capture and feature all the places and spots that were used to create the masterpiece movie that it is.

I have poured hours upon hours into researching, locating, filming and editing this project to share with people like myself who love "The Shawshank Redemption!"

Nearly all of these locations were filmed in the state of Ohio including: Mansfield, Lucas, Butler, Ashland and Upper Sandusky.

Some images and clips were used as "Fair Use" for educational purposed to create this video.

I hope you all enjoy it!

JAWS 3D FILMING LOCATIONS | Then & Now Photo Comparisons | 1983 Horror Classic Revisited!

Jaws 3-D (stylized on-screen as Jaws III and released on home media as Jaws 3) is a 1983 American horror thriller film directed by Joe Alves and starring Dennis Quaid, Bess Armstrong, Lea Thompson and Louis Gossett Jr.. It is the sequel to Jaws 2 and the third installment in the Jaws franchise. The film follows the Brody children from the previous films at an aquatic park in Florida with underwater tunnels and lagoons. As the park prepares for opening, a young great white shark infiltrates the park from the sea, seemingly attacking and killing the park's employees. Once the shark is captured, however, it becomes apparent that the real culprit was a second, much larger shark that also entered the park.

In this video you will see the Manhattan, NYC filming locations used for this classic sequel. "My family is in Florida and I'm in New York." In the montage: The Empire Diner, China Town, The Statue of Liberty and The World Trade Center will all be seen. The fish market where we first see the now Sticky Bandits to the subway stairwell they exit out on to 6th Ave will be up next. Then it's off to the Central Park area where we see the Pigeon Lady and The Plaza Hotel. The chase scene spots will also make an appearance in this video from the necklace vendor back to the Plaza. See the spot where Harry and Marv wipe out on the beaded necklaces. Following that is where they get punched by the French woman and then its off to Bethesda Terrace/Fountain. Where Kevin goes to get into a cab and wisely gets out is right up the street from where he slips on the ice. The Children's Hospital is also in this video, where he says the boy in the window. I managed to get to the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center but at the time of my visit, they weren't letting people get close. Enjoy.

Dirty Dancing is a 1987 American romantic drama dance film written by Eleanor Bergstein, produced by Linda Gottlieb, and directed by Emile Ardolino. Starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze, it tells the story of Frances "Baby" Houseman (Grey), a young woman who falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle (Swayze) at a vacation resort.

The film was based on screenwriter Bergstein's own childhood. She originally wrote a screenplay for the Michael Douglas film It's My Turn, but ultimately ended up conceiving a story for a film which became Dirty Dancing. She finished the script in 1985, but management changes at MGM put the film in development hell. The production company was changed to Vestron Pictures with Emile Ardolino as director and Linda Gottlieb as producer. Filming took place in Lake Lure, North Carolina, and Mountain Lake, Virginia, with the film's score composed by John Morris and dance choreography by Kenny Ortega.

Dirty Dancing premiered at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival on May 12, 1987, and was released on August 21, 1987, in the United States, earning over $214 million worldwide, and was the first film to sell more than a million copies for home video. It earned positive reviews from critics, who particularly praised the performances of Grey and Swayze, and its soundtrack, created by Jimmy Ienner, generated two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles. "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

The film's popularity led to a 2004 prequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, and a stage version which has had sellout performances in Australia, Europe, and North America. A made-for-TV remake was also released in 2017.

Filming started for Dirty Dancing on September 5, 1986, and lasted just 43 days. The production had to battle bad weather, including outside temperatures of 105 °F (41 °C). With the camera and lighting equipment needed for filming, the temperature inside could be as high as 120 °F (49 °C). According to choreographer Kenny Ortega, 10 people passed out within 25 minutes of shooting one day.[36] Paula Trueman collapsed and was taken to the local emergency room to be treated for dehydration. Patrick Swayze also required a hospital visit; insisting on doing his own stunts, he repeatedly fell off the log during the "balancing" scene and injured his knee so badly he had to have fluid drained from the swelling.

Delays in the shooting schedule pushed filming into the autumn, which required the set decorators to spray-paint the autumn leaves green. The weather became cold, causing the lake's temperatures to drop to near 40 °F (4 °C) for the famous swimming scene, which was filmed in October. Despite her character's enjoyment, Grey later described the water as "horrifically" cold, and she might not have gone into the lake, except that she was "young and hungry
