THE GREAT ESCAPE - Filming Locations Then and Now

In 1963, Hollywood director John Sturges released The Great Escape, one of the most popular and suspenseful wartime movies.

Now, 60 years later, explore some of the film's filming locations with Wayfinder. From the fictional Stalag Luft III to the actual Great Escape escape site, find out how the movie was made and see what it looks like today!

The Great Escape - Filming Locations Then and Now 60th Anniversary Special is my tribute to this classic WW2 movie.

A firm favourite British Christmas movie, the legendary performances by Richard Attenborough, Donald Pleasence, James Garner, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and the one and only Steve McQueen never fail to bring a family together to enjoy this classic tale.

Most of the exterior scenes were filmed in and around the small Bavarian town of Füssen in the Allgäu region.

Covering 23 filming locations from The Great Escape, this will take you to all the famous locations used in the making of the film and show you what remains and what has changed in the 60 years since its release!

The Great Escape was loosely based upon the real escape attempt from Stalgluft III in Poland on the night of the 24th March 1944. It is to those who undertook this audacious escape attempt and all those Prisoners of War who suffered during WW2.

Filming locations for Series 1 of the classic British sitcom 'Open All Hours'. Open All Hours ranked eighth in the 2004 Britain's Best Sitcom poll, and Series 1 aired in 1976, over 40 years ago now. This video shows the filming locations used in Series 1 around the Doncaster area. I've attempted to locate them as best I can, however where I cannot I have left the scenes in anyway in the hope that someone might recognise them or perhaps remember where filming took place!

Locations include Lister Avenue (the shop and Nurse Glady's house), various streets around Balby, Doncaster, several scenes around Elmfield Park as well as streets in the Town Centre.

I will be working on Series 2 shortly.

In this video you will see some of the movie locations used for the 1984 coming-of-age classic. Starting with the apartment building Daniel and his mother move to in Reseda, Ca. This is also where Mr Miyagi had his office and saved his soon to be student from the Cobra Kai. Leo Carrillo Beach will be on display, where the beach bbq and first fight over Ali took place. The school will be up next, a place seen multiple times throughout the film. Then the Mills House located in Encino, Ca will be seen. I didn't get to all the locations for this one but I couldn't miss Golf N' Stuff, where they have their first date. The dojo will be seen briefly as well. This tour will wrap up with the All Valley Under 18 Tournament location, at Cal State University, Northridge. Stay tuned to the end of this video for a scene from The Karate Kid Part 2. I plan on making a complete video for the 40th Anniversary in 2024. Enjoy
