Today, we are in Oklahoma, exploring America’s most infamous zoo, home of Netflix’s The Tiger King. Joseph Maldonado, also known as Joe Exotic ran the zoo since the late 1990s, and grew worldwide fame after Tiger King premiered on Netflix in 2020, showing his feud with Carole Baskin and his later arrest for a murder for hire plot. It all started in the early 2000s, when Joe primarily made his money through breeding tigers, roadside zoo tourism, and bringing tiger cubs to malls for photos. Around 2010, Carol Baskin, who owned Big Cat Rescue in Florida, caught wind of what Joe was doing, and contacted malls, sponsors, local officials, and animal welfare groups, which led to many of them cutting ties with Joe. He responded quickly, after claiming she hurt his income and defamed his name, by launching an online video show inside the zoo called Joe Exotic TV. In it, he mocked Carole constantly, threatened her verbally, and even filmed himself shooting mannequins representing her. This brought this feud into a national-news bizarre. However, things only got worse. Joe renamed his traveling act: Big Cat Rescue Entertainment, which copied Baskin’s organization name. She sued him for trademark infringement - and won roughly $1 million in damages. But, Joe couldn't pay. This led to Baskin ultimately gaining control of Joe’s zoo property. While all this was happening, Joe Exotic’s husband shot himself by accident inside of the Zoo’s giftshop, while pointing it toward himself while joking with a coworker. The bullet hole is reportedly still inside. This happened at the same time Joe was fighting lawsuits and escalating his feud with Carole. His behavior reportedly became more unstable, and the timeline moved quickly toward the murder for hire case later that year. This triggered a full federal case. Investigators were already looking at wildlife trafficking violations, illegal tiger sales, falsified breeding records, and euthanizing healthy animals. The murder for hire evidence sealed the prosecution. In 2019, he was convicted and received a 22 year sentence. With that, animals were seized, USDA licensing collapsed, and Baskin’s organization fully gained control of the zoo. She then ensured the site could never reopen as a tiger attraction again. Around 2020 it closed for good, never to reopen. Today, everything is still frozen in time. Joe’s house, hundreds of enclosures, animal bones, and so much more is left behind. Instead of doing a simple renovation, we went further: we demolished the old home and built a completely new house from scratch — modern, warm, cozy and designed for a family.

In this project, you will see how a place that could no longer provide comfort turns into a home filled with light, beautiful details and spaces created for living, resting, playing and sharing family moments.

First, the old house completely disappears so a new space for the family can begin to rise in its place. Step by step, a cozy family living room appears — the warm heart of the home, where mom can rest while the children play nearby.

Mom’s bedroom becomes a peaceful place to recover and relax: soft lighting, warm tones, cozy details and a ceiling that looks like a sunset sky. The kids’ bedroom turns into a real little world for children — with beds, a study area, books, toys, a slide and a ball pit.

The modern kitchen becomes one of the most impressive spaces in the house: natural wood, a warm atmosphere, an unusual illuminated crystal island and a chandelier that makes the room feel elegant and cozy at the same time.

The bathroom turns into a spa-style area: natural stone, plants, soft lighting, a modern shower and a bathtub where you would want to relax after a long day.

After that, the facade work completely changes the outside of the house. And in the end, the backyard appears with a pool, garden, illuminated paths and a relaxation area — a place where the family can spend evenings, rest and enjoy their new life.

The most beautiful part of this story is seeing how an old house disappears to make room for new hope. Where there was once tiredness, limitations and a damaged home, now there is a safe, modern, cozy and light-filled house for a mom and her two children.

This consisted of Flying to Chicago , renting a car and driving cross country along the same route that Clark Griswold and his family did in hopes of making it to Walley World in California . Home Alone is THE Christmas movie of a generation. Right after Thanksgiving, this Chris Columbus-directed film is on repeat, and for good reason. Although there are plenty of funny, slapstick scenes with Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) and the wicked Wet Bandits (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern), this movie hits on what the true meaning of Christmas is: love and family. You can't help but feel good (and fully entertained) at the end.

The Beyond the Backlot crew heads to the Chicagoland area (Winnetka, Wilmette, and Oak Park) to track down some of these iconic, memorable filming locations -- and fulfill last year's @BeyondtheBacklot Location Scout episode -- a true then and now filming locations adventure. As John Hughes normally did, he canvassed the north shore suburbs of Chicago to find the perfect home, neighborhood, and community for his timeless Christmas classic. It was an honor to walk in the footsteps of John Hughes' most commercially-successful film of his brilliant career.

Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".
