So this time out I’m exploring some of the original locations that were used to film the 70’s trucking film Smokey and the Bandit. So almost 50 years has passed since the movie was originally filmed in the summer of ’76 in Georgia and some of the locations are showing their age including the fairgrounds and the Mulberry bridge. However, I was able to find some interesting artifacts that are still there.

I've been making short films for 20 years, starting at age 11. I directed my first feature film, Bad is Bad, in 2010. Made for only $6,000, the film went on to reach over 7 million views and garner critical acclaim. More recently, my short film, Will "The Machine", screened and won awards at film festivals around the world. Released online in 2019, it reached over 1 million views in just a month. Back in November I made a trip to Evansville to see a few locations around town that were used in the 90's sitcom The Roseanne Show. The Lobo Lounge was and still is closed sadly. I was hoping to finish off by eating there and looking around at the photos inside. Maybe someday it will reopen!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Italian: Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo), is a 1966 Italian epic spaghetti western film directed by Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach in the title roles.

Ennio Morricone composed the famous film score, including its main theme. It is the third and final film in the Dollars trilogy following A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965).

Leone was unable to find an actual cemetery for the Sad Hill shootout scene, so the Spanish pyrotechnics chief hired 250 Spanish soldiers to build one in Carazo near Salas de los Infantes, which they completed in two days.

During a Stephen King-themed filming location road trip in July 2020 through California and parts of Nevada, I photographed a few filming location sites of the 1990 film "Misery" starring Kathy Bates and James Caan. While driving near Truckee, California and Donner Lake, the Donner Pass Road was closed to traffic; so I was unable to get actual photographs of part of Paul Sheldon's snowy drive from the beginning of the movie. I did do lots of research online and searching Google Street View to find the right spots, so I included the street view photos.



There aren't many sites because a lot of production took place on sound stages at Hollywood Center Studios, which is now called Sunset Las Palmas Studios in Los Angeles. I included a photo from my trip to LA in February 2017.



I hope you enjoy the few sites I was able to match to the film. If anyone has an idea of where they filmed scenes of the Silver Creek Lodge and the library where Buster found article on Annie Wilkes, please comment below. I would like to find the rest of the locations if possible.

Filming locations for Series 1 of the classic British sitcom 'Open All Hours'. Open All Hours ranked eighth in the 2004 Britain's Best Sitcom poll, and Series 1 aired in 1976, over 40 years ago now. This video shows the filming locations used in Series 1 around the Doncaster area. I've attempted to locate them as best I can, however where I cannot I have left the scenes in anyway in the hope that someone might recognise them or perhaps remember where filming took place!

Locations include Lister Avenue (the shop and Nurse Glady's house), various streets around Balby, Doncaster, several scenes around Elmfield Park as well as streets in the Town Centre.

I will be working on Series 2 shortly.

So after close to three decades of film location hunting I was finally convinced to make the pilgrimage out to Morristown, Tennessee to visit the original Sam Raimi classic, The Evil Dead. Super fan & Evil Dead expert Travis Mangold joins me on my adventure and I have to admit this was one of the coolest locations I have ever visited. Straight Outta Compton is a 2015 American biographical drama film directed by F. Gary Gray, depicting the rise and fall of the gangsta rap group N.W.A and its members Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. The members of N.W.A were involved in the production of the film, including Ice Cube and Dr. Dre as producers, as was Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Woods-Wright, while MC Ren and DJ Yella served as creative consultants. Ice Cube is played by his real-life son, O'Shea Jackson Jr., with Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre and Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E. Paul Giamatti also stars as N.W.A's manager Jerry Heller.

Talks of an N.W.A biopic began in 2010 by New Line Cinema. Several directors were approached, including Craig Brewer, Peter Berg and John Singleton, before Gray was confirmed in April 2012. Much of the cast signed on in June 2014 and principal photography began that August, taking place around Los Angeles and Compton, California. The production faced several controversies, including casting call issues and several acts of violence on set.

Released on August 14, 2015, Straight Outta Compton made over $201 million on a production budget of $50 million, was chosen by National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2015 and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. It inspired Dr. Dre's third studio album, Compton, which debuted at no. 2 on the US Billboard 200 album chart a week prior to the film's release. The soundtrack album, featuring music by N.W.A, debuted at no. 1 on the Rap Albums chart and reached no. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Heller filed a lawsuit against the filmmakers, protesting his depiction and claiming that parts were taken from his autobiography without permission.

Straight Outta Compton was filmed in Compton, California and Los Angeles, California. Principal photography began on location in Compton on August 5, 2014. In early September 2014, principal exterior shooting on a large post-riot set was observed on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in North Hollywood.While shooting in California, the production spent $50 million in the state and received the California Film & Television Tax Credit.
