Today we are going on an adventure to find the filming locations for the 1991 Michael J. Fox Comedy Classic, Doc Hollywood!
We will be finding a good chunk of the locations from the fictional town of Grady, South Carolina where Ben Stone (Michael J. Fox) was basically trapped until his car could get fixed! This has always been a favorite of mine and I hope you all enjoy this episode!

Cocky young doctor Ben Stone (Michael J. Fox) is off on a road trip to California in pursuit of a relaxed and high-paying career as a plastic surgeon to the rich and famous. But before he can pass the Mississippi River, he crashes his car on a small-town judge's property in South Carolina and incurs a community service fine, to be served out at the local hospital assisting the aged town doctor, Dr. Hogue (Barnard Hughes). Ben is soon tempted to stay by a pretty ambulance driver (Julie Warner).

Going on a tour of some iconic “ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD” locations, all found in and around Los Angeles.

1) MUSSO & FRANK, a Tinseltown staple on Hollywood Blvd that’s been around for 100 years, destination for industry players. One of our favorite restaurants, an authentic New York-style steakhouse with uniformed waiters and a retro-vibe. Great place for a steak and key lime pie. Also seen “Ocean’s 11” and “Swingers”.

2) CIELO DR intersection with the Cielo private road, near the real former Tata-Polanski residence. The intersection was featured in the movie as the bottom of the private road.

3) RICK DALTON HOUSE, which is supposed to be at the top of Cielo Dr., is in fact in Studio City.

4) JOSEPH’S CAFE, at the corner if Yucca and Ivar in Hollywood, doubled as Pandora’s Box, an iconic nightclub from the sixties.

5) CINERAMA DOME, the legendary movie theatre that appeared in the film, still operates on Sunset Blvd.

6) REGENCY BRUIN THEATER, another iconic movie theater in Westwood is where Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) goes to watch her own movie “The Wrecking Crew”. This cinema is also still in operation, or rather usually is when the country is not in a pandemic.

7) EL COYOTE, famous Mexican restaurant on Beverly Blvd, where Sharon Tate and her friends dine at the end of the film.

8) NEW BEVERLY CINEMA, which sits one block east of El Coyote, is now own by Quentin Tarantino and shows double-features nightly from QT’s own personal collection.

Our 3rd annual Smokey and the Bandit tour

For 2024 we’ll be visiting all new filming locations. These locations are spread out so we’ll be traveling to get to them. It takes 3 days to hit them all.

We start in Helen Georgia filming in 2 locations there (there’s a 3rd one we missed that day). The pond hopping scene and the road block in Mississippi. Both filmed about a mile from each other.

Next is at the McDonough Georgia square. This was filmed the day before during inaugural Wicked Jeeps poker run. There are several places filmed in McDonough but I only captured the night time infamous breaking the 4th wall scene. This scene is very early in the movie

Final clip is at the ga 400 exit 13 over pass in cumming ga. I filmed this the next day but lost the footage. So I pulled one that I filmed last fall and added it to the clip. They filmed several highway scenes at this section because the highway was just a few years opened and still not heavily travelled. Most of the big highway scenes were filmed here at exit #13

Most of the movie is filmed in and around Jonesboro Ga. We’ve previously done 2 videos in that area so this year I wanted to switch it up and do something different. Unlike the areas filmed in Jonesboro I am not from this part of Georgia so I don’t have as much knowledge of how the movie was filmed here. Since starting these videos I’ve been studying and learning about the movie and has since acquired a lot of knowledge about the filming of this movie.

After visiting every other Grease filming location this was the one that had eluded me for years and I was finally able to get inside and film locations from some of the most iconic scenes from the movie. Born to Hand Jive, Greased Lightning, the bonfire scenes and more were all shot here. Grease is a 1978 American musical romantic comedy film based on the 1971 musical of the same name by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Written by Bronte Woodard and directed by Randal Kleiser in his theatrical feature film debut, the film depicts the lives of greaser Danny Zuko and Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson who develop an attraction for each other. The film stars John Travolta as Danny, Olivia Newton-John as Sandy, and Stockard Channing as Betty Rizzo, the leader of the Pink Ladies.

The exterior Rydell scenes, including the basketball, baseball and track segments, were shot at Venice High School in Venice, California, while the Rydell interiors, including the high school dance, were filmed at Huntington Park High School.

We're checking out all of The Exorcist filming locations in Georgetown Washington DC. Everything from stairs to the house, Georgetown University, and more. We love visiting filming locations around the US, but seeing The Exorcist house and steps in person was really special.
