In 1969 stephen was five years old, and was the second youngest member of a large family. He had five older brothers, four older sisters and one younger brother. Stephen notes that a family having eleven children is seldom encountered these days, but was quite normal for the 1960's, due to low availability of the birth control pill. The family home was a brick, semi-detached house in a small town on the welsh side of the england-wales border, near chester.

First published in December 1843, 'A Christmas Carol' is the most widely adapted of Charles Dickens' many works.

Stage productions of the festive tale began to appear within weeks of the novella's first appearance, whilst the first film version was shot in London's Muswell Hill way back in 1901.

In this video, we'll be looking at those early adaptations of A Christmas Carol- including Dickens' own, celebrated public readings- before moving on to look at a collection of locations used in various film versions: 'Scrooge' (Alistair Sim, 1951), 'A Christmas Carol' (George C. Scott, 1984) and 1999's 'A Christmas Carol' starring Patrick Stewart.

I'll even thrown in a bit of 'The Muppet Christmas Carol' (1992) for good measure as well!
